I appreciate Jeanette being vulnerable and willing to share her very personal story of the pain she endured in her first marriage and the naivete which brought her to that place. This book is definitely a page turner; I could not put it down in spite of the grammatical errors which are sprinkled throughout. Any woman who has been caught in this situation will feel a connection with Jeanette's plight and any woman who has not been there will learn what is in the mind of those who are abused.The end was a bit confusing when she spoke about how God healed her, but it did not take away from the message of the book.
Her story gives hope to those still trapped in the cycle of abuse which, unfortunately does not end this well for everyone...but we see the bravery with which she finally confronted her perpetrator with...
The questions in the back of the book are helpful in identifying patterns of abuse which may otherwise go unnoticed.

I have read many, many books on abuse and overcoming, and Jeanette's is by far the most honest, detailed, riveting, tear-jerking, humble, and miraculous account I have had the honor to witness. The story itself is a page-turner, and flawlessly told, documenting the heinous abuse she endured from her seemingly charming and successful husband. The reader is given a clear picture of how an abused woman remains "stuck" in a pattern of abuse, even if she has outward success, intelligence, and the knowledge that the behavior is unacceptable. Jeanette's courage to tell the story in a public way is testament to how far away from the abuse she has come, and sets a powerful model for anyone else struggling in an abusive relationship. Witnessing her videos from her interviews, I see a woman who has not only escaped, but also put all bitterness aside to share her story and help others. I highly recommend this book for any person enduring abuse, not sure if they are experiencing abuse, helping others in an abusive relationship, or any young person who is setting out on the dating/marriage scene. Jeanette also provides follow-up resources for those who want to communicate and collaborate with her on her mission to help raise awareness and overcome abuse. Riveting book that you cannot put down!
I've worked with and for the President. I had no idea about the Prisoner. Jeanette did an awesome job in describing the horrible ordeal she went through that made her the strong and compassionate person she is today. This book was well written. I had a hard time putting it down. This gives great encouragement for other women going through what she has experienced. I recommend this book for all women.
A real life story that takes you from the innocence of youth, to the horrors of a life that should only happen in a very intense suspense movie. A page turner! Could hardly put it down.
Every young women dreams of her first love and in an ideal world we would never have to prepare our daughters for what might happen. Unfortunately, Jeanette's life story proves the need to point them to those very possibilities and the benefits of knowing someone well before you marry. Jeanette is very honest about the naivety and blindness of first love. She reveals the complexity of emotions and devotion that hold some to an abusive relationship. She shares with bravery her fight to make a break from a life none should ever have to endure. She goes from victim to victoress in a big way.
