Simply Unforgettable Simply Quartet Mary Balogh 9780440241133 Books

Mary Balogh is one of my favorite authors, I have yet to find a romance novel that she has penned disappointing. Simply Unforgettable is a wonderful read.

The story begins during a ferocious snowstorm where are lovers meet. They take refuge at a country inn. She an ordinary teacher with a secret past, he a Viscount heir to be an Earl. Stranded together in a country inn, Lucis Marshall and Frances Allard share a night of glorious, unforgettable passion. But Frances knows her place. Due back to her teaching position at Miss Martin's School in Bath, Frances must try to forget that one extraordinary night of passion. Due to his responsibilities to family and a promise made to his mother and grandfather Lucis must also forget the one woman who makes him feel alive. But when fate once again throws them together again, The power of their passion and Love will not be brushed aside because of duty and responsibility or class.

I know some have said during their reviews that they were disappointed in how strongly Frances fought her feeling for Lucis. They felt them to drawn out in the story line. I did not. I understood Frances's issues. We must remember that in that time period how important class standing was and how slanderous gossip can and would ruin families, if it were known. I would recommend Simply Unforgettable to anyone looking for a wonderful romance read. Sensual rating I would give it a 7 just remember Ms. Balogh can write hot sizzling passion without the graphic details....

Simply Unforgettable Simply Quartet Mary Balogh 9780440241133 Books Reviews

Frances Allard, music teacher at Miss Martin's school in Bath, is happy - or at least content - with her life, she declares. But she is also feisty, with a temper, intelligence, sense of joy, an enormous talent, and a deeply passionate nature. She protects her past and its secrets much longer than necessary and refuses, again and again, to accept help or support. She nevertheless manages to avoid being a tediously boring heroine, thank goodness.
Frances does not discover that Lucien Marshall is a viscount (and therefore completely impossible, of course) until many plot twists and turns have occurred, but he is soon transformed from haughty rake to a likeable, responsible, impetuous young man who falls in love without understanding just what has occurred. Fully formed secondary characters populate Miss Martin's school and Lucien's family. Will this and the ensuing three books continue to entertain and enchant me? As Frances says so effectively, "Yes."
I love the premise of this series - four female teachers teaching at a girl school in Bath. These are women with a past and also women with brains. They aren`t spoiled rich girls og women flirting at ton balls. They are women trying to create their own lives.

The first one out is Frances who doesn`t have much family apart from two distant aunts she is visiting for Christmas. On her way back she is caught up in a snow storm and seeks shelter in a closed inn together with Lucius who fails to mention that he is the heir to a title. They quarrel a lot at first but make love the second night they spend at the inn. Frances thinks Lucius will be out of her life the next day - and she tries to put him out of her mind as well as there is no future between the school teacher and the member of the nobility. But Lucius can`t get her out his mind, though he is angry with her for not wanting to be his mistress. And so the campaign to win her - as mistress or wife - begins. Unfortunately for Lucius Frances has very good reasons for not wanting to go to London in any capacity.

This was a very good story. I liked Frances a lot. As a very young girl she`d managed to land on her own two feet even though she had no one to help her. Lucius was spoiled and used to getting what he wanted and it was nice to see Frances stand up for her principles and making Lucius work for it. I liked how Lucius got angry with Frances because his feelings were hurt but also that he swallowed his anger.

I also loved the secondary characters and this book made me very curious about the other three school teachers. It was a well written story and the ending was very gratifying.
I liked both the hero and the heroine, which does not always happen for me with a Balogh book.

The behavior of the heroine when she first meets the hero seems totally out of character based on her background and personality. That was a big false note for me. Once I got past it, the rest of the story kept me reading well nto the night. And that also does not always happen for me with a Balogh book.
I chose this book because it was part of a series that was connected to the slightly series with the Bedwyns (Simply Love in particular caught my interest as it actually included the Bedwyn family). The story was sweet, the romance seems were steamy, and it had a wonderful ending. My only drawback is Lucius. The way he pursued Frances and did things without her consent or knowledge actually began to make me dislike him. He was behaving more like a bully who refused to take no for an answer than a man who was besotted. Still, he had a lot of redeeming qualities, but his behavior sometimes struck a nerve or two. Side note I was disappointed that Attingsburough, who made an appearance in Slightly Dangerous, ended up with Portia though. From the brief description of him, I thought he would have better tastes. I did not like that woman or her mother. It did not take away from the actual story though and I doubt many people would make that connection unless they're also huge fans of the Bedwyn series. Writing is wonderful and flows flawlessly. I highly recommended this book.
